Pipit, an independent-only music platform, has officially opened to music fans, offering a catalog that excludes generative-AI-created music and a discovery experience controlled by listeners rather than platform algorithms.
The Valparaiso, Indiana-based company announced the fan launch on October 29, 2026. The platform is designed for intentional music discovery.
Through customizable subscriptions starting at $3.99 per month, fans use nine distinct musical categories to build their own Discover Waves and choose which independent artists receive their financial support.
Pipit’s Support membership starts at $3.99 per month. Fans choose an independent artist to support, with $2 of that monthly membership going directly to that artist.
During the paid month, supporters can stream that artist’s catalog on Pipit as part of the relationship. Beyond direct fan support, artists earn $0.005 for every qualifying discovery stream through Pipit’s discovery memberships.
Streams of an artist’s catalog by fans currently supporting that artist are included in their Support membership and do not generate additional per-stream royalties. Each month, fans can continue supporting the same artist or redirect their $2 monthly support to another artist.
The model is designed to give fans a simple way to turn listening into recurring support while giving independent artists a more predictable connection to their audiences.
“As a songwriter and artist, I really appreciate Pipit’s business model and how it puts the artist first,” said Brandon Maddox, Grammy-nominated songwriter, artist, and performer. “The support and customer service also showed me they’re focused on creating a great artist experience.”
The company offers custom memberships that let fans shape their monthly experience. Fans can choose how many Feathers, Pipit’s $1 credits for supporting independent artists, to include each month, from $2 to $8, and direct them to artists they discover.
Fans also choose their monthly discovery and streaming time rather than paying for unlimited listening they may not use. The company states this approach aligns streaming costs with how fans actually listen, allowing lower-priced, more personalized subscriptions focused on discovery and artist support.

Discover Wave gives listeners direct control over music discovery. Pipit defines every song across nine musical categories: Genre, Flow or Journey, Mood, Sound, Vocals, Lyrics, Tempo, Studio or Production, and Region.
Fans use those same categories to create their own Discover Waves. As new independent music is added to Pipit, songs matching a fan’s existing Discover Wave can enter that discovery experience over time.
Pipit’s Backstage Pass helps fans and artists discover each other based on more than sound. Artists and fans answer questions about their interests, personality, and relationship with music.
Pipit then creates a compatibility percentage match without revealing either person’s individual answers.
“I was attracted to Pipit because it felt like a game changer,” said Elijah Beckham, who performs as Edubb302, an independent hip-hop artist from Wilmington, Delaware. “It’s a place built around discovering and sharing music while also connecting artists and fans. I think it can create more exposure, opportunity, partnerships, and collaborations for independent artists.”
Alongside the fan launch, Pipit introduced Pipit Player, a companion mobile app for iPhone and Android. The app brings independent music discovery and artist connections to fans on mobile devices.
Pipit Player also brings the Social Feed to mobile, letting fans follow artist updates, view photos and videos, and like and comment on posts.
Pipit is built exclusively around independent human artists, with no major-label artists or generative-AI-created music. The platform requires artists to certify that AI was not used to create or replace lyrics, melody, composition, vocals, instrumentals, backing tracks, or musical arrangement.
“Pipit is about giving the fan a more active role,” said Ray Shingler, co-founder of Pipit. “You choose what you want to discover and which artists you want to support, while connecting with the people behind the music instead of having the entire experience decided for you.”
Pipit, Inc. is a five-person technology company building an independent-only music platform centered on fan-driven discovery, direct artist support, and stronger artist-to-fan relationships.
The company combines modern technology with the curiosity and participation of old-school music discovery, giving listeners greater control over what they hear while creating new ways for independent artists to build sustainable relationships with fans.
