Role Overview
Platoon is seeking a Sub-Saharan Africa Music Team Lead (Senior) to join our Africa team. This is a senior music leadership role for an experienced operator with deep roots across Africa, particularly West Africa. You will be responsible for shaping Platoon’s continental A&R strategy, leading high-impact artist signings, and representing Platoon’s vision across the African and global music ecosystem.
You will operate at the intersection of culture, strategy, and execution, driving long-term regional priorities, building trusted relationships with artists and industry partners, and helping export African talent to the global stage.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and define Platoon’s Sub-Saharan Africa A&R and artist development strategy, with a strong focus on West Africa
- Identify, sign, and develop high-potential artists aligned with Platoon’s artist-first ethos
- Build and maintain strong relationships with artists, managers, labels, producers, and key industry stakeholders across Africa
- Act as a senior regional representative for Platoon internally and externally, championing African talent and perspectives
- Collaborate closely with global teams across marketing, distribution, creative, and operations to execute artist campaigns
- Drive long-term regional priorities, market intelligence, and cultural insights to inform global strategy
- Support the international positioning and export of African artists into key global markets
- Travel regularly across Africa, the UK, and the US to support artists, partnerships, and business objectives
Requirements
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in the music industry, ideally across A&R, label operations, artist management, or music strategy
- Deep understanding of African music ecosystems, with particularly strong networks in West Africa
- Proven track record of identifying and developing artists and building successful music projects
- Strong pan-African and international industry relationships
- Strategic thinker with hands-on execution ability
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills
- Passion for artist development, culture, and global music movements
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively
