Digital music service Boomplay has released its year-end recap for 2025, highlighting the platform’s tenth anniversary and growth across key African markets. The report emphasizes a strategy focused on regional discovery, catalog expansion, and artist development.
In its analysis, Boomplay noted that the most-streamed songs and albums of the year varied significantly by country, reflecting the diversity of local soundscapes.
The platform stated its approach in 2025 involved paying closer attention to audience response and cultural context within specific markets rather than prioritizing global crossover.
A newly introduced “Breakout Artist” category aimed to spotlight artists whose records demonstrated sustained regional influence. The platform identified one emerging artist from each of its core markets: Nigeria, Tanzania, Kenya, and Ghana, noting their growth was driven by steady listener engagement rather than viral moments.
The recap also included several key metrics for 2025. The platform reported that multiple artists crossed the one-billion-stream milestone on its service, which it framed as a marker of sustained fan connection rather than viral popularity.
Its “Golden Club,” a recognition for artists achieving consistent streaming performance, expanded to 93 members, representing a 20% year-on-year increase.
It’s live-streaming initiative, Boomlive Top Artist Sessions, hosted over 25 sessions with an average of 200,000 impressions per session. Boomplay stated the series was designed to foster artist visibility and direct audience engagement beyond passive listening.
Boomplay’s catalog now exceeds 145 million tracks. The company stated that its growth in 2025 was focused on “continuity” and reinforcing its position as a home for African music.
As the service marks its tenth year, the recap positioned its decade of operation as a story of “consistency” and building a platform with long-term intention for the African market.
The report concluded by stating its forward-looking commitment is to continue building a service that understands local listeners, supports long-term creative careers, and connects African music to a global audience.
