Spotify has launched Directed By, a new documentary-style series that provides viewers an inside look at the making of a music video. The launch was announced today as part of the streaming service’s ongoing expansion of its video experience.

Created in partnership with Android, the series will trace the production journey of a music video, documenting stages from initial storyboards and location scouting to the final day on set.

The format will span three episodes, with each installment featuring a different artist and director to highlight the creative and technical decisions behind a song’s visual identity.

The debut of Directed By coincides with Spotify’s broader rollout of music videos to additional global markets, an initiative the company says is designed to give fans new ways to engage with artists beyond audio.

New episodes will continue to be created in partnership with Android, according to Spotify. Future installments will explore other artists’ creative processes and show how directors utilize tools like Google Gemini to capture, refine, and execute their visual ideas.

The series represents Spotify’s latest investment in original video content as it seeks to deepen user engagement and differentiate its platform in a competitive streaming landscape.
