Streaming service Deezer has disclosed that up to 85% of all streams on fully AI-generated music uploaded to its platform were fraudulent in 2025. The data was published in a company update on Wednesday.
Deezer stated it detected over 13.4 million AI-generated tracks on its service last year, with roughly 60,000 such tracks now uploaded daily. This volume accounts for approximately 39% of its total daily music deliveries.
While AI-generated music represents a small fraction of total streams on Deezer, estimated between 1% and 3%, the company identified artificial stream manipulation as the primary purpose for these uploads. This compares to an estimated 8% fraud rate across its entire catalog for 2025.
In response, Deezer tags AI-generated content, removes it from algorithmic and editorial recommendations, and excludes fraudulent streams from its royalty pool. The policy is designed to protect payments to human artists and rights holders.
“We know that the majority of AI-music is uploaded to Deezer with the purpose of committing fraud, and we continue to take action,” said Alexis Lanternier, CEO of Deezer. “Every fraudulent stream that we detect is demonetized.”

The company also announced it will now commercially license its proprietary AI-detection technology to the wider music industry. Deezer claims its tool can identify content from major generative AI models like Suno and Udio.
It applied for two patents related to its detection technology in December 2024. The company has also been the only streaming service to sign a global statement on AI training concerning copyrighted material.
Deezer states it has already conducted successful tests with industry entities, including French authors’ society Sacem. “We’ve seen a great interest in both our approach and our tool,” Lanternier said.
The disclosure arrives amid growing industry scrutiny over AI’s economic impact. A recent study by CISAC and PMP Strategy, which involved Deezer, suggested nearly 25% of creators’ revenues could be at risk by 2028, potentially amounting to €4 billion.
